“The Future of Japan's Manufacturing and Needed Reform:Connected Industries and Flying Cars”

Kenji Mikami

METI
Director, Manufacturing Industries
Technology Strategy Office, and,
Director for Digital Strategy
Manufacturing Industries Bureau

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has proposed the concept "Connected Industries" for the next-generation manufacturing, which is to be realized through joint efforts by all companies and other parties in Japan. Challenges and points important for public agencies, private companies and production facilities to realize society and industries to connect various businesses, corporations, personnel, data, machines, and other actors (Society 5.0), will be explained. In addition, the concept of "flying cars," whose roadmap was presented by a public-private committee in late 2018, will also be introduced as a new move in the auto industry.

“Application of Data-Driven AI for Manufacturing”

Ichiro Takeuchi

Nagoya Institute of Technology
Department of Computer Science
Professor
RIKEN
Center for Advanced Intelligence Project
Team Leader

As the current development of AI is based on data science, AI is also called data-driven AI. When using data-driven AI in manufacturing, an approach known as active learning is effective. Active learning is a data science framework covering the data acquisition process and can be regarded as a kind of experiment planning. This session will provide an outline of data-driven AI, explain active learning for manufacturing, and introduce relevant applications.
